The Craftsmanship and Materials The St. Nektarios Orthodox Wood Icon is a masterpiece made from natural wood, chosen for its durability and beauty, serving as the foundation for this sacred art. The icon's surface is adorned with a 999 silver plate, a material renowned for its purity and luminance, reflecting a commitment to quality and reverence in its creation. This silver plating is not merely decorative; it employs the PVD Silver Technique, an advanced technology that ensures the icon's resistance to tarnishing and environmental damage, guaranteeing its preservation for generations. The process adheres to the stringent standards set by the EU, emphasizing the icon's compliance with European regulations for artisanship and material quality. The iconography utilized in this piece is a direct homage to Byzantine art, a copy of sacred imagery that has been venerated for centuries. This particular icon replicates the vibrant colors and intricate details characteristic of Byzantine iconography, with each feature painstakingly applied to capture the divine essence of St. Nektarios. The craftsmanship extends to the icon's medium—MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard), chosen for its uniformity and stability, ensuring that the sacred image is presented on a surface that is both durable and elegant. The icon is finished in hues of gold and silver, offering a visual representation of the divine that is both awe-inspiring and accessible. The Icon's Specifications The dimensions of the St. Nektarios Orthodox Wood Icon are meticulously set to W - 5.12 inches by L - 7.10 inches (approximately 13cm x 18cm), a size that makes it suitable for personal devotion or as a focal point in a larger collection of religious art. This handmade icon's craftsmanship is evident in every detail, from the selection of materials to the application of the silver plate. The Collection and Its Historical Significance Accompanying the St. Nektarios Icon is a collection of 12 rare Russian Orthodox postcards, each representing a pivotal moment or figure in the Orthodox Christian tradition. I had been looking for this particular icon for several years. Wanted to have a quality piece on my shelf but all other stores didn’t have anything like this… My husband is carpenter, he evaluated the quality of wood, said this icon will last for many years.
